Concordia Lutheran Church was founded in 1951 by the Rev. Dr. Guido Merkens with 34 charter members. From the very beginning, Concordia’s purpose and mission were clear: to reach the lost and disciple those who are found. Dr. Merkens spared no effort and considered every idea to share the hope of the gospel with everyone. Such an entrepreneurial commitment to witness remains among Concordia’s members today, now over 8,600 strong.

Nominations for the 2025 Guido Merkens Award will be accepted through Monday, Feb 10. This award will be presented at the 2025 Best Practices for Ministry Conference at Christ Church Lutheran in Phoenix Feb. 13-15.
